ARDROSS - Commemorative Tree

This Memorial is located on the B9176 at a lay-by on the right (going north), and about half a mile past the road to Strathy. The Memorial is marked as 'Stone' on the map (Sheet 21). As will be seen by the inscriptions this is not a war memorial. However, it is noteworthy as it was set up by the Battalion Commander of the 4th Seaforth Highlanders. The inscription reads -

THIS TREE WAS PLANTED
BY
LT COL T W CUTHERT CMG, DSO, TD
4TH SEAFORTH HIGHDRS
AND
LT COL L D HENDERSON CMG, MC, TD DL
1ST LONDON SCOTTISH
TO COMMEMORATE
THE MARCH OF THE LONDON SCOTTISH
THROUGH THE HIGHLANDS
JULY 1937

Under that is a small plaque with the printed words
This Stone replaces the tree blown down
in a gale in June 1985
