Lovat Scouts - and Music

Lovat Scouts Pipe Band - where and when unknown

Pipe Major Willie Ross
Have tried, unsuccessfully, to find a recording of the Lovat Scouts Pipe Band, even though they must have played at Balmoral Castle in 1942, when they guarded the Royal Family during their holiday in that year.

However, there are various recordings of 'Morair Sim' (the Lovat Scouts Regimental March), and of James Scott-Skinner's 'March of the Lovat Scouts'. Both of these tunes are here played by the legendary Pipe Major Willie Ross.

James Scott-Skinner
The popularity, and high regard in which the Lovat Scouts were held inspired the legendary 'Strathspey King', James Scott-Skinner , to write his delightful tune 'The Lovat Scouts', probably first as a quickstep.

Jimmy Shand
The Lovat Scouts were 'something else' as the saying has it. People, in the North of Scotland, wanted to hear about them, so someone of the eminence of Jimmy Shand were ready to provide; in Jimmy's case, via his inimitable accordion.
