Fort George - Barrack Blocks
Although Munlochy is a very small place, it has a lot going for it. There is a War Memorial where every name has a story. It was home to 'H' Squadron, Lovat Scouts, and it has the 'Clootie Well' nearby. But it has another, large-scale, story to tell.
The red stone, to build the Barrack Blocks in the above picture, came from Munlochy. The Fort was built in the 1780s, when roads, and modes of transport were more primitive, Munlochy provided the solution. Firstly, it has a Bay where stone could be shipped the short distance across the Moray Firth. There was a source of suitable red stone, now evident as 'a large hole', and it had harbour facilities.
