Ross & Cromarty War Memorials



 One of the major events which happened at Portmahomack in WW2 was practice landings for D-Day. At the time, the area had been closed off and a pass was required for entry.

Another notable local event was the making of a 40-minute propaganda film for the Crown Film Unit titled "Before the Raid". The theme was a German occupation of the Lofoten Islands, and Portmahomack was chosen because it looked like a Norwegian fishing village, The cast were local people, some of whom had to wear Nazi uniforms.
