Ross & Cromarty War Memorials

ULLAPOOL - More Info

It is said that the incredibly brave crews of these mini-sea-craft visited Ullapool as it was the nearest sizeable township (28 miles) to their training base at Kylesku; if true, this justifies including their Memorial here, as above, even though it is a few miles across the County border in Sutherland. Their names are listed below, and details of what they did, and the various craft they used, are accessible via the link in the Nav Bar below as '12th Sub'.

NOTE; The names below are as on the monument except that the two lists are parallel there, but serial here. Also, 'full-stops' have been excluded. There are two more 12th Submarine Flotilla monuments in Scotland on the Isle of Bute. That memorial is a plaque, with the same 39-man list as Kylesku, located on a wall behind the main War Memorial at Port Bannantyne, Isle of Bute. The third is a memorial record in St Ninian's Church, Port Bannantyne, which shows that 68 active service awards were given, including four Victoria Crosses; that justifies its own Appendix.

Map Ref of the Monument is NG 224 338 on Sheet 15

Here follows a listing of the full text on the panel above
