SHIELDAIG - Photographs

Parts of the aircraft were collected and put together to form a monument. The memorial plaque is fixed to the stone ediface and can be seen to the left of the top of the propellor blade. This picture was taken from a very good web-site which gives more detail of the crash, plus respectful information on the airmen's graves. Click here to see it.

OS map ref of site is NG 810 713 on Sheet 19.

The type of wild, isolated country where the disaster occurred. It shows parts of the Fairy Lochs, near Sidhean Mor, itself a 'fairy' mountain. The mountain on the left of the horizon may be Baosbheinn (being checked). For a full explanation in an excellent web-site, click here to see and read it.
